It has been a tough couple of days for all at the Mathews household and Copperbirch Labradors. Having to say farewell to our beloved Beau has been totally heart breaking for the whole family. It is the first time that my two young sons have ever really had to experience any form of grief or loss in their little lives so far and indeed it has been a learning experience for both myself and my wife as parents to help them through it.
Beau was the most remarkable Labrador I ever owned and I know her spirit will live forever through her children , grand children and great children. All the Copperbirch Labradors in my kennel are descended from her which makes them even more special to me now.
Beau’s final resting place was in our garden at „Orchard Cottage“ it was a beautiful evening. My two boys wanted to leave little momentos with her as we laid her to rest. One was one of my hats and we decided to place all the rosettes and certificates she had won. My wife felt that I should keep them as a memory but my 14 year old son Cody said „Mummy they don’t belong to us they belong with Beau, she won them and she deserves to keep them „. his little adult answer will stay with me forever.
Thank you too everyone who took the time to post messages on facebook.
I personally have found lots of comfort in your words.
I was very fortunate to have been lucky enough to film a dog training and gundog training DVD with Beau and some of my other Copperbirch Labradors. My good friend Harry Cook captured many memories of her on camera, below is Harrys tribute to Beau. Thank you Harry you have given us something to treasure forever.
Our dogs come into our lives for only a short while but as the poem goes they really do leave lasting „paw prints on our heart“. We as humans beings can learn a lot from these beautiful creatures they offer us total and absolute unconditional love and expect very little in return.
My little 8 year old … Cole says he saw a new star in the sky last night „it is Beau watching over us“ he said.
Beau you have taught me so much, you were more than just a dog, you were a true friend the most beautiful loving companion, a loving and devoted member of our family but most of all Beau you were a real LADY …„heart“-Emoticon
Rest in peace and hunt free in heaven my love xxx
